Summary: The last great World Cup
Comment: I ordered this video expecting a game-by-game analysis of the 1986 World Cup. Instead what I got was a story, done like a film, with weird camera angles. This turned out to be a great way to cover the drama of what was a brilliant World Cup. Only action from 14 games is shown but the video is no less brilliant for that. We get to see the dazzling performances of the Danish team, inspired by Elkjaer and Laudrup, as they overturn Uruguay and Germany, only to come unstuck at the hands of Spain's Emilio Butragueno. The France-Brazil match, surely the most dramatic game in the history of the World Cup, is fully deserving of the cinematic treatment, especially as the game ends with the dreaded penalty shoot out. The film is called HERO and that is because it focusses on the great individuals who scale the peaks of world football - Platini, Socrates, Rummenigge, Lineker, Francescoli, Sanchez, to name a few. The ultimate hero is of course Diego Maradona and this was his World Cup. We get to see his handball goal against England and his spectacular solo goal, as he inspired a fairly ordinary Argentine team to ultimate glory. Seeing this rollcall of great names and highlights of all these dramatic games makes you nostalgic for a time when the World Cup was really something special. Added to this is a brillaint soundtrack by Rick Wakeman. The video finishes with a montage of Maradona's greatest moments during the competition, featuring the emotionally evocative song "Special Kind of Hero", sung with great passion by Stephanie Lawrence. A great film.

Summary: What a World Cup!
Comment: This is a superbly presented account of the Mexico World Cup in 1986. As this was the first world cup I remembered it brings the memories flooding back. As with many typical reviews of world cups where there is a 30 second snippet of each match, this video plays more like a movie with music and unusual camera angles. If you like to be entertained whilst watching a synopsis of a great event then this video is an excellent choice.

The video includes such greats as Maradona (with his hand!), Lineker, Francescoli, Laudrup, and many more.

The only criticism I may have is that you don't get to see all the matches, but this would spoil the flow of the film. There are highlights of great games including Brazil versus France, Denmark crushing Uruguay, England versus Poland, (Lineker's hat-trick) and of course the final between Germany and Argentina.

Don't expect to see all the games and goals but buy this if you want to reflect and reminisce on a world cup where players didn't dive, played without shin pads and Lineker scored a bag of goals.
