Summary: Mumbo Jumbo No Secret!
Comment: Normally one finds these new age tracts mildly amusing. However there is something particularly offensive about the absurdly titled The Secret.

The book is little more than a glossy coffee table revamp of the old "power of positive thinking" schtick. However The Secret goes further in that it assures us that poverty is simply the end product of negative thoughts blocking money coming to us. "Think rich, and you will become rich", in other words.

Try telling that to the masses of people currently losing their jobs and homes as a result of the inequities of unbridled capitalism. According to The Secret, their misfortune is of their own negative making and has nothing to do with the chicanery of capitalism's banksters and shysters.

As for the poor of the LEDC's , sure all they have to do is read and practice The Secret and hey presto they will become rich.

The Secret also advises us to give up reading newspapers and watching tv news as this will only make us unhappy. Far better to wallow in blissful ignorance of the injustices of the wider world than risk one iota of one's own precious personal well-being. This is typical of vacuous New Agery which simply cannot conceive of the fact that that it is actually good to feel unhappy about the suffering of others.

An absurdly simplistic Law of Attraction is touted in this book. That Law may be expressed as follows: "Half-baked philosophy, plausibly marketed, will always attract the dollars of gullible self-indulgent folk".

Summary: A good introduction to the Law of Attraction
Comment: The 'secret' that this book is about is the Law of Attraction (LOA) and, if you know nothing about the LOA, then this book is a good starting point. It explains what the LOA is (you get what you focus on) and then goes on to illustrate how you can apply this 'secret' to achieve what you truly want with regard to money, relationships, your health and the world. The LOA is based on the energy vibrations we are emitting (and these are determined by the types of thoughts we have). Gratitude is a powerful process for shifting our energy onto higher planes and bringing more of what we want into our lives and when we feel love, we are emitting the highest vibration of all. What I liked about the book are the summaries at the end of each chapter and the stories that are told to illustrate the points that are being made. One of the most astounding is the story about Morris Goodman, 'The Miracle Man'. He was completely paralyzed after he crashed his aeroplane and could only blink his eyes. The doctors said he would remain like that for the rest of his life, but nine months later he walked out of the hospital on his own two feet. These are inspiring stories, but there is more to the LOA than is covered in this book. However, it is a good introduction to the whole topic and, if you have an open mind, it will most definitely broaden your horizons about what is possible and achievable in life.

Summary: Amazing!
Comment: This is a life changing book.If you follow it and practice it, and start of with small wishes, then the results are truly incredible. This has changed my life. Just wishing for something is not enough-you have to really feel and want it and believe you already have it.It's only then that you're wishes start to materialise.

Summary: In the top hundred for over 2 years must mean something
Comment: I cannot understand why the negative reviews give out the same message and yet the book has stood the test of time by virtue of it being in the top 100 for over 2 years? My take on it is that the spiritual side was worthless to me as I only wanted the gist of it. Reading what was left was a good pointer. I guess putting this together wasn't easy, and I am sure it will still be a well sought after title in 2 years time, as no other book covers this side of things, which I did find to be of use. Overall I had a great time reading it and would say that it is the basis of how they all made it to where they wanted to be. Let's hope it propels me to where I want to be.
